Haven in My Hometown

“But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you My power, so that My name may be proclaimed in all the earth.” Exodus 9:16

Haven has been working tirelessly to reach the underserved in our own community via its work with foster children, the prison system, and families living far below the poverty line. This can be done in your own community too and you do not have to reinvent the wheel – we can help!

Please contact Haven if you’re interested in speaking with one of our team members about starting your own Christmas Drive, your own Bags of Hope, your own book or jacket, or school supply drives. We are excited to work with you to not only meet the physical needs of those hurting in your community but also meet the spiritual needs of those who are suffering by not knowing the love of their Savior.

“Go into all the world and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

The Great Commission can seem overwhelming if we look at it through our own lens and our own strength. How blessed we are that we have not been left to carry out this important task alone!

With what did Christ follow this command that we find in Matthew 28? A promise. Encouragement. Support. The next words He utters are these: “And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age.” We do not reach for the lost without the help of the One who died to save them.

Christ throws an all-encompassing net with His commission. Of course, there are far distant missionary fields, and how we must pray for our missionaries serving our Savior there! What a gift they are – but we are not all called to do that exact same work in remote locations with equivalent skills!

However, there is a beautiful reminder that we are all called to do our own part in our own way in the encouraging hymn “Hark! The Voice of Jesus Crying”

“If you cannot be a watchman, standing high on Zion’s wall,
Pointing out the path to Heaven, offering life and peace to all,
With your prayers and with your offerings, you can do what God demands
You can be like faithful Aaron, holding up the prophet’s hands.”

Maybe we don’t have a platform as lofty as the wall of Zion – but we can focus our lens and zoom in on our corner of “all the world” that our Savior is calling us to assist today. How can you serve Christ, share His news of salvation, and call His lost sheep in your own neighborhood? What does “holding up the prophet’s hands” look like for you in your hometown?
